BOOSTERS ANYONE?

There is a lot in the news about Booster shots for the COVID vaccine. This doesn’t mean the vaccine isn’t working it is to boost the effects of the vaccine you already got. Think of it as taking another dose of Tylenol after a headache or fever. Booster shots – Who can get them – easiest said YOU.

  • Any Employee that works in a Long Term Care setting

Long Term Care settings are usually described as congregate living settings. Studies have shown throughout the pandemic that… Continue reading

An Ounce of Prevention                         (some notes are from the CDC)

The United States recently surpassed 40 million COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, with more than 4 million of these cases reported in the past few weeks. COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths have generally increased throughout most of the country since the beginning of summer, fueled by the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant. Low vaccination coverage … Continue reading

August/September 2021 Covid Update

A major concern right now is Delta, a highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 virus strain, which was first identified in India in December. It then swept rapidly through that country and Great Britain as well. The first Delta case in the United States was diagnosed in March and it is now the dominant strain in the U.S.

One thing that is unique about Delta is how quickly it is spreading.

From what we know so far, people who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus appear to have protection against Delta.  A high majority of vaccinated individuals have much reduced symptoms, and… Continue reading

May 2021 COVID UPDATE

This chart was done by AHCA, a national association of Senior Health Care.  What it shows is the dramatic decline of cases in both staff and resident infections in Nursing Homes of the COVID-19 virus.  Our programs are working.  We are winning the war against this virus.  We (collectively) still have some work to do – VACCINATION, and continuing to adhere to CDC Infection Control Protocols to reduce the spread of the virus, but we are winning.  This is good news for all of us.  It has been a hard road for all us… Continue reading

COVID-19 Update April 2021

Dear Residents, Family Members, and Employees,

As of today there are three (3) different COVID-19 Coronavirus Vaccines.  Our Nursing Home had three (3) Government sponsored COVID Vaccine Clinics.  Unfortunately those are done but the work continues on the vaccination front.  The vaccine is working at protecting residents and everyone at a greater loss of death and severe symptoms of this virus.  The graph below starts at 5/31/2020 and continues through 3/7/2021 and we can see the dramatically positive effect.

We have advocated the State for several things regarding vaccines:

COVID-19 Update February/March 2021

Dear Residents, Family Members, and Employees,

As I am sure you have heard, the FDA completed their review of two of the COVID-19 Coronavirus Vaccines (and a third one coming soon) and the process started to get people vaccinated in late December and will continue through March in Long Term Care facilities.

If you have not had a discussion about vaccination: residents/ family members please call the Administrator or Director of Nursing; employees should discuss with Human Resources or the Administrator.

We are fortunate that the Federal and State Government have recognized that Long Term Care has been disproportionately affected… Continue reading

Covid-19 Update December 2020

Dear Residents, Family Members and & Staff, The Holiday Season is upon us and it looks and feels different AND IT SHOULD. This year’s Holiday cannot be celebrated as we normally have – all of us have to adjust.  That means no large gatherings; limited interactions with non-household people; masking; and social distancing.  There is positive news on the vaccine front and hopefully residents in Nursing Homes and our Staff will be one of the firsts to receive this vaccine. Up until October, all of us in the Midwest have had a slowing effect of the COVID virus… Continue reading
